Boogy Boarding

He makes it look easy but it took two people to help Morgan boogy board. Doug waded out and wisely chose the waves to launch him off. Someone then stood in the surf to catch and steady before the waves beat him up.

After seeing the fun Morgan was having, Grant and Claire wanted a piece of the action.

Vacation 2010

We went back to the North Carolina coast this summer for a week at the beach.

We kicked off the week by spending the night in Durham so we could catch a Durham Bulls game with friends Brian (grad school) and Doug (early days of Agilent Boulder). The temperature was 99F with 80% humidity when we landed so it was a HOT and STICKY night. Grant could have cared less about the game and Doug eventually took him back to the hotel. Morgan was sort of into it. He still thinks the best part was the fireworks at the end. Despite the chaos, it was fun to see Brian and Doug and spend the night in Durham.

Then we drove to the coast. Both kids enjoyed the ocean. Doug and I discovered that watching two kids who can't swim on the beach is exhausting. Regardless it was a nice change of pace. Doug's parents and Aunt Betsy/Uncle Jeff joined us for most of the week. His cousin Jenny arrived mid week with her husband, police officer Pete, and her daughter Claire. Jenny and Pete are responsible for most of our pictures!

Fire Department Open House

The Boulder Rural Fire Department is right down the street from us. They have an annual open house in early June.

Charlotte and Grandma McCuen came over and went with us this year.

I think both kids were more interested in the balloons than the actual fire trucks!

Grant's First Birthday: Celebration #3

Our daycare does a really nice birthday celebration for the kids. They read their "life story" then sing the "Earth goes round the Sun"song while the birthday kid walks around the sun. All the teachers sign a picture poster. We've never been to Morgan's celebrations because he had a hard time with the concept of saying goodbye twice in a day. We correctly assumed that it would be safe to show up for Grant's event because he was young enough. Doug had to be in Denver but Morgan and I both helped him walk around the sun!

Grant's First Birthday: Celebration #2

Grant celebrated his first birthday for the second time in Denver's City Park with Doug's family. He shared the day with his cousin Charlotte whose birthday is June 7.

It turned out to be a great afternoon in the park.

While in Denver, we borrowed back the Kettler Trike. It's so much easier to push him around on that rather than the big wheel. He loves cruising around the neighborhood on it.

Grant's First Birthday: Celebration #1

While we were in Arkansas, we celebrated Grant's first birthday. It was the first of three celebrations...what a lucky boy!

Visit to Aunt Heidi/Uncle Kurt's House

We spent Memorial Weekend visiting Aunt Heidi and Uncle Kurt. They live on Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas. Morgan had a blast riding the jet ski and the rafting tube that was pulled behind the boat. Both kids went for a swim in the lake. Kurt went all out and treated us to a wonderful feast each night. We even got to roast marshmallows and see lightening bugs! The only disappointment was that Morgan didn't catch a snake.

It was a hot, humid, and filled with ticks but we can't wait to go back.
